Pine is an  aesthetically pleasing softwood with obvious grain lines. Pine is widely used in light furniture and shelves.

It is lightweight and easy to work with but also more susceptible to warp, bumps and scratches. 

Finish with paint for protection against water and scratches or your favourite oil if a natural look is preferred.
